 Combine with hydro potential batteries and you have a pretty potent off-grid setup. Arrays are dirt cheap and very reliable these days. 

I personally wouldn't get an electric car since I don't have my own infra and I don't want to be reliant on terrible public charging infra (among other reasons).

But it's not as clearcut as you suggest. For different people in different circumstances, EV may make more sense than ICE.

E.g. country with no oil production/processing and unreliable import, within/near tropics.
