Perhaps it makes a difference what you mean by “more tolerant” but I find that while younger people are more flexible in their own personal beliefs, they are more idealistic in terms of their expectations of others and want other people to conform to those ideals. Older people seem to be less flexible in their personal beliefs but more accepting that other people believe and think differently from them. These are generalizations and obviously not true in every individual case.
