The regulators in the European Union have asked tech giants including Google, Facebook, TikTok, and others for information on how they're dealing with risks from generative artificial intelligence, such as the viral spread of deepfakes. The European Commission has sent questionnaires to eight platforms and search engines, seeking information on curbing the risks of generative AI, including the spread of deepfakes, false information, and automated manipulation of services. The commission has requested information about the creation and spread of generative AI content, including internal documents on risk review and mitigation efforts. Deadlines for responses have been set for April 5 and April 26. The commission may conduct a more in-depth investigation based on the responses. The EU has also asked LinkedIn for information on its compliance with the DSA's ban on targeting ads based on sensitive personal data. The EU's investigation comes after the implementation of the DSA and approval of the AI Act, with provisions on generative AI taking effect next year.
