The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has joined forces with 23 other organizations to demand transparency from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) regarding Section 702 surveillance. The concern is that the government may be collecting and storing a large number of U.S. persons' communications without their knowledge or consent. Under Section 702, foreign intelligence agencies can conduct mass surveillance on foreigners abroad with the help of telecommunications service providers. Although prohibited from intentionally targeting Americans, "incidentally collected" communications from innocent U.S. citizens are often swept up in this process. This raises concerns about privacy and due process.
