Mattie frowned as she heard her husband come in. Something was off. He was whistling.

"Hello, my dear," Gerald said, as he came into the living room.

"I'm going to call a doctor," Mattie said.

"Why?" he asked. "You don't look sick."

"I'm not, but you *sound* sick. You come in whistling, you say 'dear' to me. Something's wrong," Mattie said. "Did you mistress kick you out?" She knew he didn't have affairs, but this was just too uncanny.
