Before Oct 7, I had the luxury of posting content that focused solely on learning Hebrew and celebrating Israeli and Jewish cultures.
But after Oct 7, everything changed.
Too often, I feel like I've been thrust into one of the countless movies I've watched about pogroms or the 20th-century Holocaust in Europe, those moments right before when you scream inside: "The writing is on the wall! Get out! Save yourselves..."
I have too many moments when I feel like I'm witnessing the 2024 version of that.
I teach the Hebrew language, the language of the people of Israel, the Jewish people.
What kind of educator would I be if I didn't do everything in my power to help my people when it feels like we are waking up to 1939 N@zi Germany every single morning, on all fronts?
I invest a lot of time and effort in balancing my content, making sure it is not political, and trying to show what is really happening without overwhelming you.
Do I lose followers? Of course, I do.
Do I have to deal with daily trolls and haters? Definitely.
Would I prefer for you, my followers, to enjoy 100% fun content about the Hebrew language only? Absolutely.
But that's the thing about being Jewish and Israeli.
It comes with a weight that those college students wearing keffiyehs as accessories and playing activists have no idea about.
It comes with an obligation, a duty, a responsibility that doesn’t wait for you to finish whatever it is you’re focusing on right now.
Thank you for being here, for your understanding and support during these challenging times.
Let's continue to learn and grow together, standing strong in the face of adversity, and wishing for a tomorrow where I don't need to post any content beyond Hebrew learning.
