For those on iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, there is the Yattee app that adds various functionality, including saving playback position, and not having to cast to tvOS. The app doesn’t collect any data. 
Setup:
-once the app installed go to settings/locations
-enter the invidious-piped API in the locations manifest field (*https://r.yattee.stream/manifest-invidious-piped.json -remove the star)
-click on reload manifest (right under)
-select a country from the drop-down, under public locations
-click back then done (up left corner)
-YouTube trending is now functional
-you can search for channels and add them as favourites and they’ll show up in home
