There's a gene in fruit flies that makes the females *very* interested in having sex with other females, and the male deeply *uninterested* in sex with females. When it was discovered, they dubbed it "fruity".

Then they decided that was homophobic so renamed it "fruitless" which is much more homophobic, with a hefty dollop of patriarchal too, imo
