Consumer confidence in U.S. falls in June
==========
Consumer confidence in the U.S. fell in June as expectations about the near-term future declined. The Conference Board reported that its consumer confidence index dropped to 100.4 in June from 101.3 in May. The measure of Americans' short-term expectations for income, business, and the job market also decreased. However, consumers' view of current conditions improved. The decline in consumer confidence comes despite a strong job market and positive economic indicators. Some big retailers are offering discounts due to cautious spending in the face of inflation. Consumer expectations of a recession in the next year decreased in June after rising for the previous two months.
