There could eventually be a push from major manufacturers and retailers to create their own digital assets. Similar to how gift cards/certificates currently work, or store credit, but using cryptography to digitalize the process. The main advantage for the consumer and business owner would be having the backing of the "bricks and mortar" companies, and a recourse for bad transactions.
