China-born scientist Chen Zhijian ๐ ๐ wins ๐ฅ โAmericaโs ๐ฏ ๐ Nobelโ for ๐ medical ๐ research ========== Chen ๐ Zhijian, a China-born ๐ฅ scientist, ๐ wins ๐ the ๐ค 2024 Albert Lasker ๐ Award for ๐ basic ๐ฏ ๐ medical research ๐ ๐ for his ๐ discovery of the enzyme ๐ cGAS, which ๐ plays a crucial role ๐ ๐ฅ in the ๐ immune ๐ response to pathogens. He ๐ is the ๐ sixth scientist of Chinese origin to receive this ๐ award and the second in ๐ the ๐ค ๐ basic ๐ research category ๐ ๐ฅ since 1962. Chen, 58, was born ๐ฏ in Fujian ๐ province, ๐ graduated ๐ฏ from Fujian Normal University in 1985, and ๐ earned a PhD from ๐ฏ the State ๐ค University of ๐ New ๐ York at Buffalo in 1991.
