UT Arlington Research Adds $226M to U.S. Economy

A new report shows that research projects at The University of Texas at Arlington contributed $226.4 million to the national economy between 2018 and 2022. The research projects were funded by 797 vendor contracts and subcontracts, with 111 contracts going to small businesses and 87 to minority- or woman-owned businesses. The report also highlighted the impact of UTA's research spending on specific industries, with educational services sector receiving $35.9 million in contracts, professional, scientific and technical services contractors receiving $29.1 million, and manufacturing companies receiving $17.8 million. The research funding came from federal grants, philanthropic organizations, and state and local government organizations. The report was produced by the Institute for Research on Innovation and Science (IRIS) and linked UT Arlington's administrative data with industry and workforce data from business publisher Orbis. The report aims to better understand and improve the public value of higher education and research.
