 MediaTek has announced its latest flagship smartphone chip, the Dimensity 9300. The chip is notable for its two key features: a big-core only CPU design and a boosted GPU with ray-tracing support.

Big-core only CPU

The Dimensity 9300 is the first MediaTek chip to feature a big-core only CPU design. This means that all of the CPU cores are high-performance cores, which should result in better performance for demanding tasks such as gaming and video editing.

The Dimensity 9300 has eight CPU cores in total: four Cortex-X4 cores clocked at up to 3.25GHz and four Cortex-A720 cores clocked at up to 2.0GHz. This is a significant upgrade over the Dimensity 9200, which had a mix of big and small cores.

Boosted GPU with ray-tracing

The Dimensity 9300 also features a boosted GPU with ray-tracing support. Ray-tracing is a new graphics technology that can produce more realistic lighting and reflections. It is still in its early stages of development on mobile devices, but it has the potential to revolutionize mobile gaming.

The Dimensity 9300's GPU is based on the Arm Immortalis-G720 architecture. It is clocked at up to 1100MHz and features 12 cores. MediaTek claims that the GPU is up to 55% faster than the GPU in the Dimensity 9200.

Other features

In addition to its big-core only CPU and boosted GPU, the Dimensity 9300 also features a number of other notable features, including:

* Support for LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage
* Support for Wi-Fi 7 and 5G+5G dual SIM
* A new AI processing unit (APU) with up to 33 billion parameters
* A new image signal processor (ISP) with support for 9K video recording
