Today is the first day I thought that the #nostr #bluesky model might be a better way to build a decentralized social network. Because seemingly smart and honest people told me those protocols make using one profile for lots of different services much simpler and automatic than #ActivityPub. I still have serious questions re how they seem more likely to remain more centralized via relays and unlikely to do moderation well enough, but we haven't really solved those here yet either. #fediforum
the issue i see with it is that currently, there's only BlueSky. So the whole "make using one profile for lots of different services much simpler and automatic" is theoretical for the time being.

they are supposedly decentralized now but I haven't seen other servers (but I haven't looked hard).
sure, they are decentralized, but still, there's only one service. You can move to a different "server" but BlueSky is BlueSky....here there's Pixelfed, PeerTube, Misskey, Sharkey, etc.

You can't move your data between all of them, but there's a few you can like Mastodon/Pleroma/Sharkey

They have this protocol, but it's too new and I don't know if they're actually allowing devs to work with it yet for their own projects.

am I right that nostr does have these different services and has a similar model?
tbh, I have no idea about Nostr. Sorry😅 though I'm sure there's many people here who do. Hopefully you find the answers you're looking for in that regard.
