I have different thoughts on this. On one side, you're hurting your new content type by not allowing it to be associated and boosted by your current identity. On the other hand, some people may not want to follow you for that new type of content and would prefer it to be separate. In the end, I feel that we humans cannot fit inside the same box all of the time. We're more than one school of thought or one genre of content. I follow Gary because I like Gary. This includes all of Gary's content. If Gary started to post one thing I wasnt interesting in, I wouldn't stop following Gary because I would then miss out on the other content that I do like. This school of thought won't work for everyone, because again we don't all fit in the same box.
