When you say the original homesteaders are speaking to the first line of owners back when this land was granted or the people you got it from? 

Have you claimed the original land patent grants on this land? It might be a good think to pursue if you love freedom. It's supposed to protect you from encumberances. 

I ask because I am involved in the field and assist land owners do just that. :)
