Jefferson was a deist whose view of god and the creator was vastly different from the contemporary Christian perspective. Jefferson rejected all of the miraculous and mystical aspects of the Bible, and released his own edited version that omitted all references to anything that could be called supernatural. Boringly, it's called the Jefferson Bible.
The deist view of God was more grounded and natural, and not at all the notion of a personal, anthropomorphized creator that contemporary Christianity, and the other Abrahamic faiths have adopted.
