I think you are 100% correct that we as individuals should learn how do deal with offensive language internally instead of imposing arbitrary rules on others to forcefully modify their speech. That dovetails nicely into my point about giving our power away to the language we use. 

I also find myself agreeing strongly with your point regarding intention in speech. It is impossible to discern another's intention which is what makes ideas like "microaggressions" absolutely absurd and unworkable.
