A recent survey by SBNRI, a one-stop investment platform for NRIs and OCIs, revealed that nearly 14% of NRIs from the US find it challenging to navigate double taxation issues in tax return filing. The survey also found that 14.11% of NRIs from Australia, followed by 13.10% from the UK and 8.06% from the US, consider double taxation as the biggest challenge in filing taxes. Additionally, 12.10%, 9.05%, and 6.02% of NRIs from the US, UK, and Australia, respectively, found accessing taxation documents from abroad to be the most challenging concern. The survey also revealed that 10% of US-based NRIs report only the income earned in India to the Indian Tax Authorities, while 6% from Canada, 4% from the US and Singapore, and 3% from Australia reported both income earned in India and abroad. The survey highlights the need for expert guidance to navigate the complex taxation process for NRIs.
