I've been running big and active nodes, CLN, LND, you name it, multiples of it. I've always been in touch with the devs when I had problems. In those years, I've had the scariest issues with CLN (db level utxos going missing and shit like that) but the more frequent issues with LND (ram, db size, watchtower stuff).
Saying that one is clearly good and the other one is bad is most certainly generalizing from small sample sizes or anecdotal evidence. It's simply not true.
I HAVE SUCH A LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH LIGHTNING NODES. INCREDIBLE TOOLS BUT EXPENSIVE AND INFURIATING.
CRAZIEST PART IS I LEGIT HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH MONEY I HAVE LOST OVER THE YEARS. LIKELY A LOT THOUGH.
I feel your pain. I have had 2 Nodl nodes, a MyNode, an Umbrel and a Start9. The Start9 is the only one that I would recommend but it was expensive AF.
Paypal is cheaper and easier. Visa, mastercard, fiat, all much much easier and cheaper and more private. Terrible systems, but still better than lightning in every single way.
Worst take of the year congrats
Paypal transactions are not public. Bitcoin transactions are. Every single one. Even lightning devs admit its inconvenient and difficult to use. Most people don't know how bitcoin works or how to get hold of it, let alone want to set up a lightning node in their home. Which leaves it to signing up with alby custodial or similar (no more private than paypal), and even that is complicated for average person who definitely does use paypal without much difficulty. I hate paypal, i WISH bitcoin was more convenient and more private, but wishing it does not make it so.
