China says conducting joint military drills with Russia

China announced that it is conducting joint military drills with Russia along its southern coast. The exercises, called Joint Sea-2024, began in early July and will last until the middle of this month. China maintains that it is not a party to the Ukraine conflict but has faced criticism for its political and economic support to Russia. Japan expressed concern over joint China-Russia activities near its territory from a national security perspective.
