Hi nostr, hope everyone had a good day. We were busy outdoors most of the day, and my husband finished building the chicken boxes and got them installed. The young chicks took to their new digs right away, and hopped right up, although that batch of chickens has not started laying yet.
We also did some mowing, me on the zero-turn and my husband on the tractor. Lately i've been raking up some grasses in the field after mowing, it makes good hay for the chicken boxes and coops.
I'm getting some small tomatoes from the volunteer tomato plants, and one of my fig trees is loaded with fruit, although those are not ripe yet. Looking forward to eating fresh figs. So thats about it, just gonna chill for the evening now. Yall have a good evening nostr friends. Stay happy, healthy, and free. #grownostr #homesteading #countrylife https://i.nostr.build/XV2oW.jpg
I can’t wait for my figs either, sounds very productive day maria
Fresh figs are the best!
Last year was my first we got 2 figs. This year looks like 10-15 https://i.nostr.build/BRz4Y.jpg
Nice! My trees are pretty new also, so i'm happy for the good production, although the fruits look pretty small. Cant remember which variety i have.
What variety of fig are you growing up there? Do you have to do anything special to protect it in winter?
I love how they get more productive so fast 😁 of the three fig trees my family has, the one planted in the best spot seemed exponentially productive per year and has grown HUGE
I know one of them is brown turkey, but cant remember the other variety. I have two of them. And i dont give them any special protection in winter, except they do have mulch near the roots.
Oh I imagine figs do fantastic in Texas! I was wondering about @WedgeSocial in Canada 😁
Mine are a cutting from a family member I will try to find oit the variety. Its potted and i move it into the garage for the winter.
I've not had a freshly picked fig. I'll have to research figs for zone 5
Look into the chicago fig. My tree is unknown variety, but i bring it into the garage in the fall. I know a gent further up from me who knocks the tree over and mulches it for the winter.
Wow, neat. Never heard of anyone doing that.
What size pot is it in?
24-36inch ish?
Its also the trees second year so its a work in progress still
