My two Pi domain controllers have been running dutifully with zero upkeep besides software updates for five years. My old mini PC needed cleaning, firmware, and used 5x the power.

I wouldn't strap a mini PC on an attic rafter as a temperature sensor, it would fry. The Pi is happy up there, though.
