 Have you read the book?

A lot of this really boils down to those who read the book hoping some human has the ability to bring it to life in a way that not only respects the book but respects that people really want to see the thing they read about.

This is the third attempt to bring Dune to life and it fails to do so and I thought this was the best attempt so far.

David Lynch tried in the 80's and I liked it but it wasn't really Dune.

SciFi did a 3 part mini series that included the 2nd and 3rd books (scant) in the series but . . . meh. It was way too ambitious.

Now we have this latest attempt. As with the first two attempts many things in the book that gave the story the deep political, economic, and sociographic contexts had to be jettisoned because there is not enough production money and time available to do it the "right" way.

One of these days someone will step up and knock that son of a bitch outta the park but I don't think it'll be very soon.

I highly recommend reading the first 6 books in the series (I tried his son's attempts to further the series but I find them horrible). The sheer depth is eye watering.

Dune Part 1 was pretty boring but beautiful. Dune Part 2 was fantastic: the costuming, cinematography, editing, sound design, score . . . it was bad ass BUT! without the full context it just can't be Dune: The Movie.

Does this help?
