I have a writing maxim "Nothing dates as fast as contemporary references" in other words, avoid them.

But I'm just checking the third part of my book MONSTERS (published in 2017, set in some near future) for the audiobook narrator and found an intentional "contemporary reference" that has improved with age:

‘You know the old actress, Michelle Yeoh?’ the man said.

Chloe’s smile got wider. ‘She’s my hero.’

The man gave her a conspiratorial nod. ‘You do her proud.’

It brought a tear to my eye.
