The strange thing is ... with people like this, who really care about the work, once they have good health care a decent home and a few little luxuries (fancy headphones? A nice computer?) they're more interested in hunting the problems they want to solve than getting more money. 

If they cared about money they might not have gotten as far solving the problem or answering the question.
