High fees are an attack on bitcoin.  If the fees are too high then legitimate usage is crowded out.  The argument that high fees are NOT disruptive, is a cheap, but effective social attack on bitcoin.  There are ways to mitigate high fees.  Some, but not all, have been explored.  More work needs to be done here.
