How do you feel about tariffs if sequestered to fund border protection / defence?

I read all the (valid) macroeconomic criticisms of tariffs as a kid, but tariffs do have the remarkable virtue of requiring essentially no bureaucracy or govt powers beyond that already needed to secure a border.
