Anyone use an Umbrel Home device? Are they good? https://umbrel.com/umbrel-home
I "assembled" a similar one earlier than it appeared on the market. It contains a Linux and utils/apps on a Raspi4 platform
Cool, I got it running on a Pi 4 as well, but the rest of the internals are old and need replacing soon.
Yes, it is an old platform. But all platform will be old sometimes :-) The softwares are upgradable. E.g. Pi-hole, which originally was developed for Raspi but Umbrel also contains it
When I did my research a year or so ago, umbrel was super easy to install, but less secure. To me that was a deal breaker for any BTC application. I went with Start9 and I am super happy. Tor-only right now, which complicates things a little but I am not technical and can managei it so you can too. Super clear and detailed documentation helps a lot. And clearnet access is in testing already so will come soon. After testing on a RPi I got a Server Pure, all FOSS and very good quality. And customer service second to none. And no, I'm not related to them at all, just a happy camper.
Yep, had some difficulties migrating from a RPi, but all good now. Definitely faster than a Pi. Also have a Start9, Umbrel is an easier interface, think Apple like. Will use Start9 seriously when they get a decent VPN, I want to use Lightning & NOSTR relay remotely reliably, Tor is secure, but slow and awkward. I originally tried configuring a Lenovo NUC to be my Umbrel, but had problems with the Linux distro, so decided to turn that into my Start9, which is an OS.
Yes and yes. Any questions?
