My wife and I spent time in Vietnam. Irrespective of the politics, it felt like any other burgeoning economy. Amazed that they still use cash notes. Interesting going to the museums seeing their perspective on the war and viewing all of the captured military equipment. 

They know how to deal with an invading power (we toured the tunnels). I don’t think anyone will go in there soon. Besides, who else will manufacture the absurdly cheap clothes?
