i think that if you are going to use git then you must know how to check out a tag

and yeah, there should be regular tags

i think some people find the idea of having hundreds or thousands of tags some how "messy" but it makes development a lot easier and at least Go tooling tries to use tagged versions in imports so this simplifies the process of referring to it

also, semver is not single digits, it should be possible to have v1.2.10000
