 It is a Darwinian form of transportation for sure. But it's entirely possible to ride safely and defensibly.

I myself ride with full armor, though I've never had to use it! After 15 years and 100,000 miles the worst I've experienced was dropping the bike while parking.

Though I've had no shortage of close calls due to other drivers! 

 Except in the rain 

 And an old Landcruiser will outperform and outlast pretty much every modern SUV on the planet 

 My kids do not fit on a motorcycle, but they’re happy on our cargo e-bike 

 but is also more likely to shorten the lifespan 

 exactly 

 plus, it filters through traffic to go from A to B even faster 

 I once sat in my NA miata next to a brand new equivalent AMG Mercedes. Did the math, no way they were having 30x as much fun as me on that drive.
