You could point it to a pool like Braiins but in this case the miner was using ckpool, which isn’t a pool in the same sense. It’s a service that lets you mine solo. With a traditional pool like Braiins you get paid out a proportion based on the hashrate you contributed when anyone in the pool mines a block. If your miner hits a block while using ckpool, then you get 98% of the payout and the other 2% goes to ckpool to support their service, but if someone else’s machine mines the block, then you get nothing.
