Liberal rationalism. The Enlightenment injected rationalism into western Christianity and made it susceptible to disintegration brought on by liberalism generally. It will be rooted out.
Christianity implements many timeless principles and has changed the world for the better in many ways. I would say this degradation is specifically intimately, and in great detail, because of the lack of rebellious spirit. Being an apologetic weak doormat is banner of western Christianity.
