I don’t play D&D nor most any games. One of my friends husbands used to play it weekly. They had game night at their house as least once a month. The wives & girlfriends hit the pool with the kiddos while they played. They did have one woman player IIRC. 

Do you play IRL? That might be a good place to pick up tips. Sincerely. Don’t know if that’s helpful but I remember how serious they took those games. They moved away.
