U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai recommended that Brazil "weigh the risks" before joining China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

Brazil "should really think about what is the best path for greater resilience in the Brazilian economy," said Tai.

The Chinese Embassy in Brasília reacted on Friday (25th), calling Tai's comments "irresponsible" and "disrespectful," stating that Brazil's sovereignty in choosing its trade partners "must be respected."
