This reminds me of the invasion of Iraq, which brought 2 million people (mostly British) onto the streets of London, marching in solidarity against the war. The lies and deceit leading up to that invasion were glaringly obvious. Service personnel lost their lives, not for some noble cause, but seemingly to enrich a few oligarchs. Tony Blair, for instance, is now quite wealthy--and not from a Prime Minister's salary. I might have minded it less if they had at least been honest.
