The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned that an escalation of trade tensions between the US and China would have "costly" economic consequences globally. According to IMF Deputy Managing Director Gita Gopinath, a rise in tariffs would lead to lower output, inflation pressure, and negative impacts on all countries involved.
