Food is medicine.
I'm working with a client who has Type I diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is believed to be due to an autoimmune reaction (i.e., the body attacks beta cells in the pancreas because it doesn't recognize them) or a virus or genetics.
The beta cells make insulin. Insulin transports sugar from the blood into the cells, where it produces energy. So if beta cells are impaired or reduced, blood sugar levels rise.
Here are some foods that have the properties of reducing blood sugar levels:
Bitter gourds
Cinnamon
Fenugreek seeds
Tulsi
Neem
Flax seeds
Aloe vera
Curry leaves
Mango leaves
Mung beans
Millet
Here's an anti-diabetic tea you can try. Recommend sipping in the morning:
1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
Sliver of fresh ginger root (not powder)
Tulsi leaves (or tea bag)
1 cup boiling water
Cinnamon reduces blood sugar. Tulsi enhances secretion of insulin. Ginger clears ama (toxins that stick to cells, making them unrecognizable). You can combine any, or all, of these ingredients..
For additional flavor you could add: some rose petals or pinch of rose powder. And if your pitta (heat in the body) is not too high, you could add 1/4 tsp cacao nibs. That would taste delicious.
Experiment.
If you are monitoring blood sugar levels, lmk your results after sipping this tea.
