In education, the Hedgehog concept — as presented in James Collins superb book, “Good to Great” — has been embraced.

But there's nuance. My read of it is that ambitious up-and-comers are well-advised to build a hedgehog strength. However, the senior staffers who work in team to run a school district tend to be generalists. They aren't polymaths who are superior at everything but instead tend to be superior in 1 or 2 areas while also being *very* strong in many/most other areas.
