 There’s more nuance. The Austrian economists believe in open borders and private land ownership. That means all land would be owned privately so there isn’t ever really an open border. In this world you can’t just cross my land permissionlessly or use the highway to go to your destination. Since land is not privately owned today, people have to follow this bs democratic process to determine how the land is used. Since taxpayers are financially responsible for maintenance of the land, it is understandable why they’d be upset that immigrants benefit from land they don’t own or pay for.
