We have a huge wild hop vine growing in the garden. I feel like it’s a requirement that I make beer with it, right?! https://m.primal.net/LEYP.jpg
YES! I wonder what kind of hops they are?
Pick one and rub it between your hands and give your hands a good wiff!
Intermediate hops
Sir we aren't discussing routes.
Correct, otherwise straight to jail!
Yes!
You can also just make tea with it. Wild hops contain a lot of phytoestrogens, which makes them good for women and has a calming effect. Apparently a tea like this is the ultimate sleep aid for men, it almost knocks you out when you drink it 🤣
100% do it. You won’t regret it. Just figure out if they are better as bittering hops or flavours hops first and pai with the other.
Suggestions on how to figure that out before brewing?
There in lies the difficult bit I think. Maybe look around at what variety’s are native to you and then maybe have a search online for how they are different. Leaves will be different sizes/shapes possibly. Grab a couple of hops of the plant crush/rub them between your palms firmly to see how strong a scent they give off that will probably help the identification. If they don’t have much scent maybe just use them in the main brew and finish with a dry hop of another variety. I did something similar with my hops plant a couple years ago, it was more the fact that I could say my hops were in it than that they made a massive difference to the brew (though I didn’t have much, it is a bit colder here). If they are super strong in scent maybe dry hop with them. Also don’t forget to pick and dry them first.
Make hop tea for 60min boil 30min boil 10min boil And see which one/which mix you prefer
Good shout!
Confirmed. They’re bittering hops for sure. Pretty nice. They’ll definitely be going in a brew. https://m.primal.net/LFTd.jpg
Neat! I'd love it if you were to update us on the beer when the time comes.
Yes sir!
Absolutely, it's a sign! 🍻 You've got to brew some homemade beer with those hops—nothing better than garden-to-glass. Cheers to your future batch! 🌿🍺
