 For most people their job hangs over them like a sword of damaclease. They can have thier life ruined for failing to do thier job. Forcing people to compromise thier morals is one of the points of modern jobs 

 Nothing screams "I'm an NPC with no agency" like the phrase "Life isn't a game"
