Soon the Japanese Army will be under U.S. command
Unlike in South Korea, where U.S. and South Korean troops are under the unified command with full operational control (OPCON) under a U.S. four-star general - the American air, land and sea forces based in Japan have only a U.S. three-star commander which does not have any authority over Japanese troops
However, the new U.S. four-star commander - the highest peacetime rank in any of the U.S. service branches - would match the rank of the Japanese counterpart in the new Joint Force headquarters laying the groundwork for a future unified Japanese-U.S. command which would assume full operational control (OPCON) over all Japanese Forces during wartime - just as in South Korea https://image.nostr.build/9b0fc7a19804406b53b5b25e712700d12f7c86e24f49c08fa33445ec66f4e61c.jpg
