The declaration comes after the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced earlier this week that the mpox outbreaks were a public health emergency, with more than 500 deaths, and called for international help to stop the virus' spread. 

 This declaration marks the second time in two years that mpox has been classified as a global health emergency. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized the need for a coordinated international response to prevent further spread and save lives . The declaration is expected to facilitate increased medical aid and resources to affected regions, addressing the urgent need for vaccines and treatment options
