Their study found that iron in red meat reactivates telomerase, driving cancer progression. Telomerase maintains cellular immortality by rebuilding telomeres, allowing cancer cells to divide uncontrollably. A small molecule, SP2509, was identified as a potential treatment strategy by blocking telomerase reactivation.
