Having lived through a round of vicious staff cuts in Philosophy at the University of Melbourne, I can get some sense of the pain, anger and stress faced by colleagues at the Dianoia Institute of Philosophy at the Australian Catholic University.

The ACU administration have taken bloody mindedness to a new level. It takes a special kind of cruelty to shut an entire newly established research institute—uprooting people who had moved across the world to join in the effort—only a couple of months after lauding them as they hosted the 100th Anniversary Conference of the Australasian Association of Philosophy.
