#WordWeavers Sept 8: What do you pay attention to when describing your characters’ surroundings?

I generally thing about how it affects the characters. I often write in first person, so then it makes sense to note how a room smell, if it's hot or cold, etc.

Also, the surroundings can be a powerful tool to set the mood for a scene.
