TIL: Something which I suspected for ages (and is really annoying) but have finally found the answer to, is that [@thunderbird](https://mastodon.online/@thunderbird) global searches are faceted and try to find close matches:

"Most of the time this is a very useful feature, but there is no way to disable it if you want an exact match"
