Marketers project price as Dangote Refinery sets new date for petrol production

The Dangote Refinery has delayed its petrol production date due to crude oil supply challenges. The facility initially set August 11 and 12 as the date to begin petrol production. The refinery is expecting to pump its first petrol into the Nigerian market at the end of August. The 650,000 bpd-capacity refinery has faced challenges in securing crude oil from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). Marketers hope that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery will sell petrol at N600 per litre when it launches in the Nigerian market. The refinery has faced allegations of lacing its diesel with high sulphur, which it denies. Independent petroleum marketers believe that the refinery will reduce the price of petrol like it did with diesel. The facility would reduce its fuel cost if it received the needed support regarding crude oil supply.
